Yu Young-dae, Former Korea University Professor, Appointed President of Gugak Broadcasting
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hwang Hee "Expecting New Value Creation in Gugak"
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 1st that Yoo Young-dae, a former professor in the Korean Studies Department at Korea University, has been appointed as the president of Gugak Broadcasting. His term will last for one year until September next year.
President Yoo, who earned his master's and doctoral degrees in literature from Korea University, has served as a professor in the Korean Studies Department at the same university since 1995. He has led efforts to popularize gugak (traditional Korean music) while concurrently holding positions such as Chairman of the Guryedong Pansori Festival Promotion Committee, President of the Pansori Society, Artistic Director of the National Changgeuk Company at the National Theater of Korea, and member of the Cultural Heritage Administration's Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee. Minister Hwang Hee of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated, "Based on the expertise accumulated in the gugak community, we expect him to create new value for gugak and expand the role of Gugak Broadcasting."

Gugak Broadcasting was established in February 2000 to promote traditional cultural arts and creatively inherit traditional music. In December 2019, it launched Gugak Broadcasting TV to broaden the base of gugak enthusiasts.
