Biden: "20 Years of Afghanistan Deployment End... Withdrawal Is the Best Option"
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] U.S. President Joe Biden announced the completion of the withdrawal of U.S. troops stationed in Afghanistan, stating that the 20-year U.S. military presence has come to an end. He also announced that he will deliver a national address tomorrow.
In a statement released on the 30th (local time), President Biden said that the withdrawal and civilian evacuation mission were completed as scheduled based on the unanimous recommendation of all commanders.
On the same day, the U.S. Department of Defense officially announced that all U.S. troops stationed in Afghanistan had withdrawn. The withdrawal was completed one day earlier than the originally scheduled date of the 31st.
President Biden explained, "The commanders' view was that ending the military mission was the best way to secure options for U.S. troops as well as for those wishing to leave Afghanistan in the coming weeks or months."
President Biden also mentioned that he instructed the Secretary of State to continue negotiations with partner countries to ensure the safe passage of Americans, Afghan partners, and foreigners wishing to leave Afghanistan.
