Gyeongju City Quickly Addresses Public Welfare... COVID-19 Special Support Fund Provided to All Citizens

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Gyeongju City, Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 30th that it will provide the ‘Gyeongju Citizen COVID-19 Special Support Fund’ starting from the 9th of next month to help citizens struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
This is a follow-up measure to the ‘COVID-19 Special Support Fund Payment Plan’ jointly announced on the 18th by Gyeongju Mayor Jun Nak-young and City Council Chairman Seo Ho-dae.
The ‘Gyeongju Citizen COVID-19 Special Support Fund’ will be paid as 100,000 KRW per person via Nonghyup prepaid cards to approximately 252,000 citizens and about 9,800 registered foreigners, with a usage deadline of December 31.
The fund can be used at any card-affiliated stores within the Gyeongju area without industry restrictions, except for large supermarkets and online shopping malls.
The application period is from the 9th of next month until 6 PM on December 24, and applicants can visit the administrative welfare center in charge of their resident registration area with an ID card as of 0:00 on August 18 to receive the payment immediately upon application.
The city discussed integrated payment methods including Gyeongju Pay and online applications, but the Gyeongju Pay option was excluded due to only about 30,000 users, and the online application option was excluded due to system construction costs and time constraints.
Mayor Jun Nak-young said, “This special support fund can help alleviate citizens’ financial difficulties and serve as a spark to revive the depressed local economy,” adding, “We will mobilize all administrative capabilities to ensure that citizens can receive the special support fund conveniently and promptly.”
