Honam University 'AI Big Data Department Established' Recruiting 25 New Students
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Honam University (President Park Sang-chul) announced on the 30th that it will select 25 freshmen for the AI Big Data Department (Department Head Baek Ran) for the first time to train AI experts.
The AI Big Data Department aims to cultivate creative and interdisciplinary experts proficient in artificial intelligence and big data, which are core technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution era, and operates an educational curriculum centered on theory, practice, and industrial field experience.
In particular, the curriculum is organized into three categories: specialized education focusing on artificial intelligence and big data technologies, a convergence curriculum linked with humanities and business administration, and a new technology-centered curriculum to nurture leading talents in the AI era.
In the 1st and 2nd years, education is provided to improve computing thinking skills and coding abilities based on creative computational thinking to build basic competencies, while the 3rd year focuses on big data and artificial intelligence education to cultivate major competencies.
In the 4th year, convergence and advanced courses are conducted to strengthen practical skills. All these courses will be operated in connection with the AI+X Convergence Campus project, which focuses on AI education at the bachelor's level in universities within the Gwangju region.
To successfully operate the curriculum and cultivate creative and convergent talents, plans are continuously being made to establish state-of-the-art educational facilities and recruit excellent professors.
As a newly established department responding to the demands of the era, career prospects are limitless. Graduates will work as AI experts, data analysts, and IT-related professionals in large corporations' development and data analysis departments, AI specialized institutions, foreign IT companies, internet companies, and venture firms.
Meanwhile, Honam University, which is nurturing all students as AI convergence talents, will select all 1,651 applicants in the 2022 academic year early admission from September 10 to 14.
The eSports Industry Department (Department Head Jeong Yeon-cheol) will select 30 students, an increase of 9 from last year, and the Cartoon Animation Department (Department Head Gu Man-chae), Police Administration Department (Department Head Kim Jeong-gyu), and Fire Administration Department (Department Head No Seon-gyun) have each increased their intake by 5 students.
Also, the Health Science Division, which operates the largest number of 9 departments among four-year universities in the Gwangju area, including the Nursing Department (Department Head Jo Eun-ah) and Occupational Therapy Department (Department Head Kim Hee-young), will recruit 477 freshmen.
Honam University selects students for the interview-focused 'General Student Admission' by reflecting 60% of school records and 40% of interviews, while the curriculum-centered admission is based 100% on school records.
To broaden the choices for applicants, overlapping applications between the interview-focused and curriculum-centered admissions are allowed, and general administrative fees for application are reduced in case of overlapping applications.
To prevent COVID-19 and for the convenience of distant students, early admission interviews will be conducted online and non-face-to-face.
