[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] A man in his 40s who was accused of killing his wife's lover with a weapon after his wife confessed to an affair and demanded a divorce was sentenced to probation.
The 13th Criminal Division of the Incheon District Court (Presiding Judge Ho Seong-ho) announced on the 30th that A (49), who was tried on charges of attempted murder and special injury, was sentenced to three years in prison with a four-year probation. He was also ordered to undergo probation for three years and perform 120 hours of community service.
The court stated, "A was fully aware that his repeated attacks could cause fatal injuries or excessive bleeding leading to B's death," and added, "He also injured his wife who tried to stop him, indicating the violence and danger of the crime."
However, the court explained the sentencing by saying, "A has no prior criminal record and acknowledges some of the crimes and responsibilities," and "A criminal settlement has been reached with the victims, who do not wish for A to be punished."
A was indicted for stabbing B, his wife's lover, multiple times in the arm and chest with a weapon at his home in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, around 11:45 a.m. on May 11 of this year, attempting to kill him.
Investigations revealed that when A's wife disclosed her relationship with B and demanded a divorce, A called B to his home and committed the crime, saying, "If you love her, then die."
During this incident, A also wielded the weapon against his wife who tried to stop him, causing injuries requiring six weeks of medical treatment. B was diagnosed with injuries requiring three weeks of treatment.
