Passage of the Sejong National Assembly Building Act through the National Assembly Standing Committee
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] A bill to establish a branch of the National Assembly in Sejong City passed the National Assembly standing committee on the 30th. It will be implemented if passed at the plenary session next month.
The National Assembly Steering Committee held a plenary meeting that day and passed an amendment to the National Assembly Act specifying that "the Sejong Assembly Hall shall be established as a branch of the National Assembly in Sejong Special Self-Governing City." It also included an attached opinion stating that "the National Assembly Secretariat shall promptly establish a basic plan for the construction of the Sejong Assembly Hall using the 2021 design budget."

Yoon Ho-jung, chairman of the Steering Committee, said, "This bill is very meaningful as it greatly contributes to balanced national development," adding, "The Steering Committee will continue to make efforts to ensure that this bill is properly implemented." It is expected to be processed at the plenary session of the regular National Assembly next month after going through the Legislation and Judiciary Committee.
