SK Energy and Logisquare Join Hands to Promote Eco-Friendly Commercial Vehicles
Agreement on Eco-Friendly Commercial Vehicle Transition and Use of SK Muffin Truck Membership
Conversion of Freight Vehicles to Electric and Hydrogen, Installation and Operation of Charging Infrastructure, and Joint Development of Related Projects
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] SK Energy and Logisquare announced on the 30th that they signed a business agreement on "eco-friendly commercial vehicle transition and SK Muffin Truck membership usage" at the SK Seorin Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by Kang Dongsu, Head of Solutions and Platform Promotion at SK Energy, and Kim Sinbae, CEO of Logisquare, among others.
Through the business agreement, SK Energy and Logisquare will jointly promote ▲ transition to eco-friendly commercial vehicles ▲ development of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and EV charging business ▲ activation of various membership services of Muffin Truck ▲ development of new logistics-related businesses. This collaboration aims to proactively respond to the government's trend toward eco-friendly commercial vehicle transition based on the capabilities each company possesses.
First, the two companies will carry out cooperative projects to gradually transition Logisquare's affiliated and partner commercial vehicles to eco-friendly electric and hydrogen vehicles. Additionally, they plan to install EV charging infrastructure at Logisquare's major logistics centers and operate charging services while developing related joint businesses.
Logisquare is a transportation logistics specialist company with a nationwide network of 16 locations, over 1,000 client companies, and performs approximately 60,000 freight transports monthly. It continues cooperation with major conglomerates and leading domestic and international courier logistics companies in the freight transport sector. Based on long-accumulated transportation know-how and data, Logisquare is promoting a transition to digital and eco-friendly logistics through continuous IT development and investment, including freight transport management systems and freight payment solutions.
SK Energy has been operating "Nae Truck House," the nation's first welfare facility for freight truck drivers, at 22 locations nationwide since 2006. It provides complex services such as rest areas, parking, maintenance, and refueling to freight drivers, contributing to social value creation by reducing traffic accidents, resolving illegal parking on roads, and ensuring rest time. Furthermore, SK Energy has developed "Muffin Truck," an online-to-offline (O2O) platform offering comprehensive services for freight drivers, including freight transport management, payment billing, and vehicle management, which is scheduled for official launch in December this year. Muffin Truck is currently in the beta service phase and provides services across all areas of transport operations, including freight management, billing, tax services, financial product recommendations, and vehicle management.
Although mobile services have emerged in various areas of the commercial vehicle industry, which has traditionally been offline-service oriented, over the past 2-3 years, Muffin Truck is the only commercial vehicle O2O platform in Korea that integrates various offline logistics services into a smartphone application. SK Energy plans to develop Muffin Truck into a one-stop vehicle management service covering all aspects of purchase, maintenance, and management of freight vehicles, which are the livelihood foundation for freight drivers. Centered on Muffin Truck, SK Energy will also accelerate the eco-friendly transition of commercial vehicles in collaboration with various external specialized partners.
