US Marine Corps Officer Who Criticized Military Leadership on SNS Stripped of Command Authority
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] A U.S. Marine Corps officer was stripped of his command after posting a video on social media criticizing the military leadership's handling of the Afghanistan situation.
According to U.S. CNN on the 29th, Lieutenant Colonel Stuart Scheller of the U.S. Marine Corps posted a video on his Facebook on the 26th, demanding that the military leadership take responsibility for the Afghanistan situation.
The video was posted on the same day as a suicide bombing attack by the extremist armed group Islamic State (IS) at Kabul Airport in Afghanistan, which resulted in the deaths of 13 U.S. military personnel, including Marines, and numerous civilian casualties.
In the video, Lieutenant Colonel Scheller said, "I feel dissatisfaction and contempt for the United States' diplomatic policy regarding Afghanistan. Over the past 20 years, our soldiers have died in vain, yet no one has stepped up to accept responsibility or said, 'We messed up.'
He added that he was willing to risk everything to publicly demand accountability from the military leadership.
After the video was posted, the U.S. Marine Corps command stripped Lieutenant Colonel Scheller of his command authority.
