"Offering a Chance to Observe Celestial Bodies Using the Nation's Only Radio Telescope"
National Gwacheon Science Museum to Collect Proposals from the General Public on November 11
Celestial Observation Projects Can Be Conducted from November 1 to February Next Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] An opportunity has opened for middle school students and older citizens to remotely use the country's only radio telescope to observe celestial bodies.
The Gwacheon National Science Museum announced on the 29th that it will recruit observation proposals from middle school students and older to provide the chance to remotely observe celestial bodies using its radio telescope.
The Gwacheon National Science Museum is the only science museum in Korea equipped with a radio telescope. To allow many citizens to directly use the radio telescope for celestial observation, the museum will recruit observation proposals, select participants, and allocate observation time. An explanatory meeting will be held on the 11th of next month, and proposals will be accepted from the 13th of next month until October 17th. The results of the review will be announced on October 22nd, and successful participants will conduct remote observations using the radio telescope at the Gwacheon National Science Museum from November 1st until February 25th of the following year.

The recruitment targets are middle school students and older who are interested in radio observation, including individuals or teams. They can select celestial bodies to observe based on scientific objectives and submit proposals. Each team can have a maximum observation time of 50 hours, and up to six teams will be selected to perform remote observations. After observation, participants can process and analyze the data to write reports or papers, which can be submitted or presented at academic conferences.
