Dong-A Otsuka Oransi Launches BioPET Products Using Eco-Friendly Materials
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] Dong-A Otsuka announced on the 26th that OranCee, its low-calorie fruit carbonated drink, has launched the first eco-friendly Bio-PET product applied to a domestic flavor carbonated beverage.
OranCee Bio-PET is an eco-friendly PET made with 30% raw material extracted from sugarcane. Compared to conventional plastic PET products, it reduces carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by more than 20% throughout the manufacturing, distribution, and incineration processes, and it is 100% recyclable and reusable.
Plastic PET commonly used is made from petrochemical raw materials.
However, Bio-PET replaces 30% of the main raw material for PET production, monoethylene glycol (MEG), with bio MEG (bio monoethylene glycol) derived from sugarcane, thereby reducing carbon emissions compared to the conventional PET process.
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of OranCee, launched in 1971, Dong-A Otsuka introduced this Bio-PET product as part of its eco-friendly management activities after several months of sensory and quality evaluations, making it the first domestic flavor carbonated beverage to do so.
OranCee Bio-PET has been applied to the OranCee Pineapple 1.5L product and is available exclusively online through Dong-A Otsuka’s online mall, Naver official smart store, and Coupang official brand shop.

Meanwhile, Dong-A Otsuka has been reducing CO2 emissions per product by 21% since 2011 by introducing the ‘O-Hot Pack’ system in the Pocari Sweat production process. The O-Hot Pack system integrates PET production and filling on a single line, minimizing external exposure compared to the conventional method of purchasing PET separately for filling, which prevents contamination and lightens the PET. Through the introduction of the O-Hot Pack system, Dong-A Otsuka reduced carbon emissions by approximately 2,059 tons over three years from 2018 to 2020. This is equivalent to planting 411,000 pine trees, assuming one pine tree absorbs 5 kg of CO2 annually.
