Gyeongnam Province to Promote Introduction of 'Climate-Conscious Budgeting System'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 25th that it is promoting the introduction of a 'climate-conscious budgeting system' that analyzes in advance the impact of policies and projects on greenhouse gas reduction and climate change and reflects it in budget allocation.
The province has decided to establish a climate crisis impact assessment system necessary for implementing the climate-conscious budgeting system and has been conducting a "Research on the Introduction Plan of Climate Crisis Impact Assessment" since March.
This research service includes establishing the basis for calculating greenhouse gas reduction amounts and preparing the grounds for the climate-conscious budgeting system.
The province plans to introduce the climate-conscious budgeting system starting with the initial budget allocation for the next year after completing the research service in September.
This year, the province is piloting the climate-conscious budgeting system on 2,946 projects, excluding administrative operating expenses and financial activity costs, out of 13,479 policy projects.
For the targeted projects, evaluations are conducted based on the impact on greenhouse gas emissions and climate-friendly environmental goals, categorizing them into climate-friendly, climate-negative, climate potential impact, and climate-neutral projects.
The province's policy is to encourage policy officials to establish and implement climate-friendly policies by implementing the climate-conscious budgeting system.
