'Set Once, Auto Connect' Seoul's 2,340 Bus Stops Equipped with 'Public Wi-Fi'
Seoul City Builds Wi-Fi at Bus Stops with Boarding Areas...Improving Service Levels at Bus Stops
Installation Completed One Year Ahead of Schedule...Automatic Connection Without Reconnection Needed at Each Stop
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young]Seoul City announced on the 24th that it has completed the installation of public Wi-Fi at 2,340 bus stops equipped with boarding platforms to enhance convenient bus transportation services and reduce the communication cost burden on citizens.
Previously, Seoul City planned to install public Wi-Fi at 2,340 bus stops by July 2022, but by simultaneously promoting government-supported projects and Seoul City’s own initiatives, the target schedule was advanced by one year and the installation was completed.
Seoul City prioritized installation on major central lanes such as Jongno, Gangnam-daero, and Tongil-ro, and selected bus stops along the streets with available electric power supply and high citizen usage for installation.
In particular, Seoul City significantly resolved previous inconveniences by using the same SSID as the public Wi-Fi service Kkachion, reducing hassle. Once the initial setup is completed, anyone can automatically connect to the Wi-Fi while waiting for the bus.
Meanwhile, Seoul City plans to continuously conduct satisfaction surveys on bus stop Wi-Fi usage to monitor any inconveniences experienced by citizens. In addition, in line with the pilot operation of the future-type central bus stop ‘Smart Shelter,’ the city will continue to improve the level of bus stop services.
