Russia "Forming New Government in Afghanistan... No Need for Troop Deployment"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suhwan] The Russian government confirmed on the 23rd that it has no intention of sending troops to Afghanistan, which is occupied by the Islamic militant group Taliban.
Oleg Syromolotov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, responded to Sputnik's question about the possibility of deploying troops to Afghanistan by saying, "Such a question is inappropriate," and "Such a plan does not align with national interests."
He expressed a practically favorable stance toward the Taliban, stating, "The new Afghan regime has begun to restore order and does not require military support from anyone."
The Taliban, having occupied Afghanistan for over a week, has begun forming a new government in earnest.
Sputnik reported, citing officials, that Abdul Ghani Baradar, the second-in-command of the Taliban, will announce decisions related to the next government within the next two weeks.
