Naver Launches 'Review Committee' to Verify News Algorithm
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Naver announced on the 23rd that it has launched the 'Naver News 2nd Algorithm Review Committee.'
Naver's news service is primarily centered on the 'Media Outlet Edited Edition,' where media companies directly edit and users subscribe to use. However, for AI-based auxiliary services such as 'MY News,' 'News Home,' and 'News Search,' the algorithms will be reviewed by experts, and the results will be disclosed.
The 2nd Algorithm Review Committee consists of 13 experts recommended by the 'News Algorithm Review Committee Preparatory Committee,' which is composed of members from four fields: artificial intelligence, communication, informatics, and computer engineering. The chairperson is Professor Ko Young-jung of the Department of Software at Sungkyunkwan University.
The 2nd Algorithm Review Committee will conduct a comprehensive review of Naver News recommendation and search algorithms. They plan to examine the appropriateness of formulas, data processing, and modeling processes applied in Naver News services and publish a report within the year.
Yoo Bong-seok, Head of Naver Service Operations, said, "Following the first review in 2018, when Naver was the first domestic and international portal operator to have AI algorithms applied to news reviewed by external experts, we are now conducting the 2nd Naver News Algorithm Review Committee this year. We will continue efforts to regularize this process to enhance service transparency."
