Drunk Driving Hit-and-Run... 60-Year-Old Mother Dies and 20-Year-Old Son Injured by Reckless Driver
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jucheol In] A man in his 40s, who abandoned his conscience by taking the precious life of a citizen while driving under the influence, caused a secondary accident and fled the scene but was caught by the police.
The Gyeongnam Gimhae Western Police Station announced on the 21st that they have arrested and are investigating A (40, male) on charges of hit-and-run causing death under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
A is accused of colliding with a Tucson vehicle while changing lanes on a road in Heungdong, Gimhae City, at around 9:05 PM on the 20th, while intoxicated.
He is also accused of fleeing the scene and subsequently rear-ending a Cerato and an SM3 passenger car that were waiting at a nearby traffic signal.
As a result of the accident, a person in their 60s who was in the Cerato was transported to a nearby hospital but ultimately passed away. Two others were injured and received treatment at the hospital.
After hitting three vehicles, A left the scene without providing any aid but reportedly turned himself in at the police station around 11 PM on the day of the accident.
At the time, A’s blood alcohol concentration was at the license cancellation level (0.08% or higher). The police believe that A fled the scene out of fear that his drunk driving would be discovered after causing the accident.
