[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] Defense Minister Seo Wook announced that the victim protection system will be improved in relation to the death of a Navy sergeant.
Minister Seo appeared before the National Defense Committee of the National Assembly on the morning of the 20th and said, "Regarding the death of the Navy non-commissioned officer who was a victim of sexual harassment on August 12, we have dispatched specialized investigative personnel from the Ministry of National Defense to the Navy to investigate whether there was secondary harm and whether actions were taken according to the manual."
Following the death of an Air Force non-commissioned officer who was a victim of sexual harassment at the end of May, a similar incident occurred in the Navy on the 12th, and the military is currently investigating.
Minister Seo stated that day, "We will promptly improve the prevention of sexual violence, the military sexual violence incident handling manual, and the victim protection system," and emphasized, "We will continue to transform into a strong military trusted by the people based on 'justice' and 'human rights,' and do our best to realize 'strong security, proud military, and united defense.'"
