SKT "View 'Real-Time' Congestion by Subway Car on T map"
[Asia Economy Reporter Seol Gina] SK Telecom announced on the 18th that it has launched a ‘Real-time Subway Car Congestion Information Service’ in collaboration with Seoul Metro and TMAP Mobility to enhance the convenience of citizens using the Seoul subway.
The real-time congestion data is provided by integrating real-time data such as Seoul Metro’s real-time train locations, SK Telecom’s T-WiFi information, and TMAP Mobility’s station information, and is available through TMAP Mobility’s ‘TMAP Public Transit’ and Seoul Metro’s ‘Ttota Subway’ applications.
Users can easily check congestion levels by clicking on the desired station in the subway tab on the initial screen of the TMAP Public Transit app. Congestion is indicated in four color levels from green to yellow, orange, and red, depending on how many passengers are on board. The detailed screen also shows two cars with the most available space (recommended). The three companies believe that this congestion service will greatly help citizens use public transportation safely in the current situation where social distancing is emphasized due to COVID-19.
The service starts with Line 2, which has the highest number of users. For lines other than Line 2, the TMAP Public Transit app provides ‘predicted congestion’ based on existing big data. SK Telecom is also discussing expanding the service to additional lines with Seoul Metro, which operates Lines 1 to 8 and part of Line 9 in Seoul.
