'Social Distancing Ignored'... Sky Routes More Crowded During Vacation Season
In the Past Month, 5,870,759 Passengers Used 14 Airports
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] Despite the government's strict social distancing measures amid the 4th wave of COVID-19, the air routes were more crowded during the vacation season. In particular, the number of passengers increased significantly, especially in non-metropolitan areas.
According to the Korea Airports Corporation on the 14th, from last month 12th to this month 11th, when Level 4 social distancing was applied in the metropolitan area, the number of passengers at 14 domestic airports excluding Incheon International Airport was 5,870,759, an increase of more than 7% compared to the same period last year (5,449,509).
It is analyzed that despite the government's request to 'refrain from traveling' under Level 4 distancing, the demand for travel increased significantly, especially to vacation spots in non-metropolitan areas, coinciding with the summer vacation season. Over the past month, 2,310,496 people visited Jeju Airport, 1,958,307 at Gimpo Airport, and 755,171 at Gimhae Airport.
