The 5th 'NJ Cup' National Elementary School Golf Tournament Concludes Successfully... An Seonghyeon and Park Jiyoung Win
Around 300 Golf Dreamers and Parents Attend at Changwon Country Club
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Woo Jong-wook] At the NJ Cup (Namje Academy Chairman's Cup) golf tournament, a festival for the country's top golf prodigies, An Seong-hyun (Nasan Elementary School, 6th grade) and Park Ji-young (Geumseong Elementary School, 6th grade) both claimed the championship.
The tournament, held from the 12th to the 13th at Changwon Country Club, was conducted under strict quarantine guidelines with about 300 young golf hopefuls and their parents in attendance. Participants adhered to mask-wearing and social distancing, showcasing passion and honed skills comparable to professionals.
In the boys' division, An Seong-hyun scored 10 birdies and 1 bogey in the second round on the final day, shooting 9-under-par 63, finishing with a total of 12-under-par 132 to earn the championship honor.
In the girls' division, Park Ji-young recorded 7 birdies and 2 bogeys for a 5-under-par 67, finishing with a total of 9-under-par 135 to seize the championship. Each winner received a trophy and a scholarship of 1 million KRW.
In the boys' division, 2nd place went to Lee Chi-woo, a 6th grader at Muhak Elementary School; 3rd place to Kim Tae-hwi, a 6th grader at Centum Elementary School; 4th place to Son Je-i, a 5th grader at Gadong Elementary School; and 5th place to Yeom Jae-min, a 6th grader at Dusil Elementary School.
In the girls' division, 2nd place was awarded to Hyun Se-rin, a 6th grader at Seokseong Elementary School; 3rd place to Lee Si-eun, a 6th grader at Jungmun Elementary School; 4th place to Won Seo-hyun, a 6th grader at Samsung Elementary School; and 5th place to Kim Na-ra, a 6th grader at Pureunsol Elementary School.
Second place winners in both divisions received 500,000 KRW, third place 300,000 KRW each, and those placing 4th through 10th were awarded certificates and prizes.
An Seong-hyun, the boys' champion, said, "I am honored to win," adding, "I will pursue my dream of becoming a professional and strive to be recognized for both skill and character."
Park Ji-young, the girls' champion, expressed gratitude to the organizers for holding the NJ Cup amid cancellations of many tournaments due to COVID-19, stating, "I aspire to become a golf player who advances to the U.S. Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and enters the Hall of Fame."
Kim Min-tae, chairman of Namje Academy and the tournament organizer, said, "I am very pleased to host this tournament showcasing the brilliant performances of young golf talents," and thanked the Changwon CC representative and tournament officials for their support, as well as God for ensuring a safe and successful event.

Meanwhile, the NJ Cup is held annually by the Namje Academy educational foundation to expand the base of golf participants and to foster young golf prodigies at the elementary school level. Now in its 5th year since its inception in August 2017, the NJ Cup has established itself as the most prestigious golf festival in Korea.
