Daegu Biker Gang Detains Teenagers, Beating and Burning Them
Daegu District Court Sentences Two Adult Bikers to Prison... Two Juveniles Given Probation
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A man in his 30s and a man in his 20s were sentenced to prison for torturing a 15-year-old teenager they met at a motorcycle gang meeting by burning him with fire and collectively assaulting him.
They continued to confine and assault him because he did not obey them and was considered disrespectful.
On the 11th, according to the Daegu District Court Criminal Division 10 (Judge Lee Jeong-mok), Mr. A in his 30s, who was arrested and tried on charges of violating the Act on the Punishment of Violent Acts, etc. (joint injury) and aggravated confinement causing injury, was sentenced to 4 years in prison, and Mr. B in his 20s was sentenced to 3 years in prison.
Additionally, teenager Mr. C, who participated in the violence and was prosecuted without detention, was sentenced to 1 year in prison with a 2-year probation, and Ms. D was sentenced to 6 months in prison with a 1-year probation.
They gathered at a location in Buk-gu, Daegu, around 2:30 a.m. on December 7 last year, riding motorcycles for a motorcycle gang meeting.
At that gathering, excessive physical punishment began. Mr. A and others claimed during the investigation that they hit Mr. E’s head and cheeks because he repeatedly disobeyed their orders not to steal motorcycles and did not listen. Another teenager present was also hit multiple times for being disrespectful.
When Mr. A tried to take a taxi home, Mr. B chased Mr. E in a passenger car. After forcing Mr. E, who got off the taxi, into his own car, he took him to an acquaintance’s house, where he was confined and subjected to assault and cruel treatment.
Among the motorcycle gang members, Mr. C inserted tissue paper between Mr. E’s toes and set it on fire, causing second-degree burns on the toes. Mr. B also forced Mr. E to fight another acquaintance and assaulted him with fists and a motorcycle helmet after Mr. E lost the fight. He even heated scissors with fire and burned Mr. E’s left shoulder, causing second-degree burns.
After repeated assaults and cruel treatment while confined, Mr. E escaped around 4 p.m. the next day when the surveillance was lax.
Mr. E’s family reported the incident to 112 after hearing about it, and the Daegu Northern Police Station arrested the participants in the assault and sent them to trial.
The court stated regarding adults Mr. A and Mr. B, “Although they admitted to the crime, they were not forgiven by the victims, and the victims’ parents strongly demand severe punishment.”
Regarding teenagers Mr. C and Ms. D, the court said, “Since they are under 19 years old, the Juvenile Act applies, and the same sentencing standards as adults are not applied. Although the crimes cannot be considered minor, the fact that they admitted their wrongdoing and showed remorse was taken into account.”
