[AKYUNG Poll] Opposition Candidate Support Rates: Yoon Seok-yeol ↓ Hong Joon-pyo, Yoo Seung-min, Choi Jae-hyung, Won Hee-ryong ↑
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol recorded the highest approval rating among conservative opposition candidates in a public opinion poll asking about the suitability of the next presidential candidate.
On the 10th, Asia Economy commissioned Win-Gi Korea Consulting to conduct a public opinion poll (100% mobile phone virtual numbers, automated response) from the 7th to 8th targeting 1,006 voters nationwide aged 18 and over. The results showed that former Prosecutor General Yoon's approval rating was 24.3%.
Following former Prosecutor General Yoon, People Power Party lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo recorded 17.3%, and former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min recorded 10.2%. Former Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae-hyung recorded 9.1%, and former Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong recorded 5.5%.
Although he took the lead, former Prosecutor General Yoon's rating fell by 4.1 percentage points compared to the same survey in the fourth week of July, continuing a downward trend. On the other hand, lawmaker Hong increased by 1.4 percentage points, former lawmaker Yoo by 1.1 percentage points during the same period. Former Governor Won increased the most by 1.6 percentage points. Former Chairman Choi rose by 0.5 percentage points but still remained in single-digit support.
Among People Power Party supporters, 54.7% supported former Prosecutor General Yoon, followed by former Chairman Choi at 15.3%, lawmaker Hong at 10.8%, former lawmaker Yoo at 4.1%, former Governor Won at 3.5%, and People Power Party lawmaker Ha Tae-kyung at 2.2%. Despite the recent decline, former Prosecutor General Yoon maintained a large gap, leading former Chairman Choi, who ranked second, by 39.5 percentage points within the People Power Party support base.
People's Party leader Ahn Cheol-soo's approval rating also sharply dropped from 6.1% to 3.6%. Following him were lawmaker Ha at 2.9%, People Power Party lawmaker Yoon Hee-sook at 2.6%, former Liberty Korea Party leader Hwang Kyo-ahn at 2.3%, lawmaker Park Jin at 1.1%, Jang Sung-min, Chairman of the World and Northeast Asia Peace Forum at 0.9%, and lawmaker Kim Tae-ho at 0.8%.
The percentage of respondents who had no preferred candidate or did not know also slightly increased to 17.7%.

The survey method was wireless ARS using 100% mobile phone virtual numbers, with an overall response rate of 7.0%. The sample was extracted with weighted values (cell weighting) by gender, age, and region based on the resident registration population as of the end of January 2021 from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
