Shinsegae Department Store announced on the 10th that it will open 'Daejeon Shinsegae Art & Science' with a total floor area of 284,224㎡ (about 86,000 pyeong) on Expo-ro, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon on the 27th. It is the largest in the central region, with three basement floors and 43 above-ground floors. It consists of a department store spanning eight floors and the 193m tall Shinsegae Expo Tower. The department store's sales area is 92,876㎡ (about 28,100 pyeong), making it the third largest after Centum City and Daegu Shinsegae.
◆The Only Luxury Brands in the Daejeon Area
At the time of opening, the department store will feature luxury brand stores unique to the Daejeon area, including Fendi, Bottega Veneta, Saint Laurent, Celine, Tom Ford, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Panerai, Bulgari, Piaget, and Chaumet. It boasts the largest number of cosmetic brands in the region with a total of 47. Brands such as Gucci Beauty, Maison Margiela Perfume, Maison Christian Dior (MCD), as well as Shinsegae International's premium brands like Hermes Perfume, Swiss Perfection, and Yeonjak will also be introduced for the first time in the central region.
Shinsegae-operated curated stores such as Boon the Shop, Maison Margiela, Acne, Herno, Marni, Lemaire, AMI, and Maison Kitsun? are configured as exclusive stores in the Daejeon area, and the popular street fashion brand Ader Error is entering the department store industry for the first time.
◆Science, Culture, and Art Multi-Sensory Content
Shinsegae Department Store emphasized that this location is filled with content encompassing not only shopping but also science, culture, and art. The science museum 'Shinsegae Nexperium,' created in collaboration with KAIST researchers, is themed around three major future fields: robotics, bio, and space. The 'Daejeon Expo Aquarium,' utilizing digital media, exhibits about 20,000 creatures of 250 species in a 4,200-ton tank. Additionally, it features the first indoor sports theme park in Daejeon and Chungcheong, 'Sports Monster,' a 193m art observatory, and 'Hotel Onoma, Autograph Collection' with 171 rooms.

Given the opening of a new store amid COVID-19, thorough quarantine measures are in place. An 'infrared AI camera' capable of simultaneously measuring the temperature of about 20 people per second is installed at the entrance, linked with the CCTV system to identify close contacts and track movement paths. Cha Jeong-ho, president of Shinsegae Department Store, said, "Based on the data accumulated by Shinsegae, we have composed brands optimized for the local commercial district," adding, "Daejeon Shinsegae will become a landmark representing the central region in the future."
