Jinju City Public Design Volunteer Group Breaks a Sweat Creating Murals
Creation of Mural under Jinyanggyo Bridge... Providing New Attractions for Local Residents
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City in Gyeongnam announced on the 30th that, together with the 9th Public Design Volunteer Corps, they have newly created a mural depicting the Jinju meteorite under Jinyanggyo Bridge.
This volunteer corps consisted of 20 Jinju citizens from various fields, including professors, university students, artists, architects, housewives, and city council members, recruited through an open call in May and June.
From the 5th to the 30th, members, led by Professor Park Sung-sik of the Department of Art Education at Gyeongsang National University, worked for four weeks creating murals to improve the cityscape despite the continuous hot weather.
Jinju Mayor Cho Kyu-il expressed gratitude, saying, "I thank the volunteer corps who voluntarily participated with a love for the region despite the scorching heat and devoted their effort and passion," and urged, "Let us all work together to enhance the city's dignity and create a region where all citizens are happy."
A Jinju city official stated, "The mural work under Jinyanggyo Bridge will be completed by the end of July, and in August, the mural under Seokryu Park, created in 2014, will be repaired."

Meanwhile, since its inception in 2013 with the 1st group, the Public Design Volunteer Corps has involved over 160 citizens over eight years, transforming 12 public spaces such as the entrance of Jinyangho Park, under Jinju Bridge, and the ecological bridge in Jeongchon Industrial Complex by integrating public design harmonized with the city into new spaces.
