[Asia Economy Reporters Ryu Jeong-min and Bae Kyung-hwan] On the 30th, President Moon Jae-in appointed Lee Ki-heon, Secretary for Civic Participation, as the new Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs at the Blue House. Lee Won-gu, Senior Administrative Officer of the Anti-Corruption Secretary’s Office, was appointed as the Senior Secretary for Anti-Corruption. Both new secretaries are internal personnel from the Blue House.
The new Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs was born in 1968 and graduated from Seoul Dangok High School and Kyung Hee University with a degree in Trade. He is a party official who served as the General Secretary and Organization Secretary of the Democratic Party of Korea. Following former Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs Lee Kwang-chul, who was a lawyer, this appointment marks the reappointment of a non-prosecutorial Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs. He served as a Senior Administrative Officer in the National Security Office’s Foreign Policy Secretary’s Office and the Presidential Secretariat’s Civil Affairs Secretary’s Office before working as Secretary for Civic Participation.
The new Senior Secretary for Anti-Corruption was born in 1971 and graduated from Seoul Yeongil High School and Hanyang University with a degree in Ceramic Engineering. He is a legal professional. After graduating from the Judicial Research and Training Institute in 2005, he worked as a lawyer at the law firm Changjo.
He was appointed Senior Secretary for Anti-Corruption after serving as a Senior Administrative Officer in the Blue House’s Public Service Discipline Secretary’s Office and Anti-Corruption Secretary’s Office. Former Senior Secretary for Anti-Corruption Kim Ki-pyo was a prosecutor who served as a research officer at the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office and as chief prosecutor of the Special 1st Division at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office; this new secretary differs in that he is a lawyer.
Meanwhile, former Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs Lee Kwang-chul tendered his resignation on the 1st after being indicted without detention in connection with the case involving former Deputy Minister of Justice Kim Hak-ui. President Moon accepted his resignation, but the retirement date was postponed until a successor was appointed.
