LH Completes 'DroneWorks Platform' Construction "Continuous Inspection of Construction Sites Using Drones"
Three-Dimensional Analysis of Earthwork Cross-Sections and Slopes... Applied to Compensation Tasks Including Obstruction Surveys
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo Gang-wook] Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced on the 29th that it has established the first drone works platform among public enterprises to lead smart construction technology using drones, a new technology of the 4th industrial revolution, and to prevent construction accidents.
The ‘LH Drone Works Platform’ is a web-based comprehensive drone utilization platform that builds and processes a database from drone footage taken at LH project sites nationwide and uses 3D modeling for △basic investigation of compensation sites △earthwork measurement at construction sites △real-time safety patrols at sites.
On the Drone Works Platform, drone footage can be uploaded to a dedicated web database to continuously check and analyze sites. It produces point clouds used to convert 2D information into 3D data, enabling 3D modeling. It also automatically creates orthophotos (images made by overlapping multiple aerial photos taken from above into one) so that sites can be easily viewed in three dimensions.
In particular, orthophotos produced by the platform can be overlaid with topographic maps, cadastral maps, design drawings, etc., making it easy to analyze earthwork cross-sections, quantities, slopes, and more, allowing for three-dimensional comparison and analysis. Additionally, the video streaming function enables real-time monitoring of construction progress, which is expected to greatly help prevent on-site safety accidents.
The Drone Works Platform allows integrated management of drones used by LH. Users can view the device list, detailed drone information, battery status, as well as drone flight locations and operation status at a glance.
LH plans to expand drone utilization beyond construction sites to overall construction operations. In particular, to improve the accuracy of land compensation work, it will provide a land compensation object detection service based on drone footage to detect objects on land and use it to investigate obstacles such as buildings, greenhouses, and containers.
After operating the Drone Works Platform for employees this year, LH plans to enhance the platform next year so that construction companies and others can also use it.
