[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] On the 28th, the student council presidents representing university students in Jinju simultaneously held one-person protests opposing the government's LH reform plan at the National Assembly and the Sejong Land Research Institute.
The student council presidents of four universities representing Jinju (Gyeongsang National University, Korea International University, Jinju Health College, Yeonam Technical College) joined the 'Opposition to LH Dissolution' one-person protest in Seoul, which has been relayed by members of local community organizations starting with Jinju Mayor Cho Gyu-il on June 7, demanding the creation of a reform plan that reflects the voices of youth and university students.
Meanwhile, on the same day, as the government held a 'Public Hearing on LH Organizational Reform Plan' premised on the separation of LH organizations, the student council presidents changed the location of their one-person protest from the Blue House to the Land Research Institute to highlight the unfairness of the LH reform plan proceeding without considering the opinions of local residents and youth and university students.
Additionally, in front of the National Assembly where the LH reform plan was to be discussed, they continued their one-person protest, stating, "After the government's unilateral announcement of the reform plan, new hiring has been suspended, preventing young people preparing to join LH from continuing their dreams and hopes," to raise awareness of the unfairness of the unilateral reform plan.
Regarding the students' one-person protests, a representative from Gyeongsang National University stated, "Since the creation of the Jinju Innovation City in Gyeongnam, LH has become a hope for university students through efforts to connect with regional base universities, and it is unfair to dismantle LH by the government's unilateral decision."
Jang Chan-hwi, president of the Gyeongsang National University student council who led the one-person protest, raised his voice, saying, "The ones most harmed by the LH incident are ultimately the youth and university students," and "We cannot accept the unilateral splitting of LH without reflecting the opinions of the affected youth and university students."
On the same day, Jeong Jae-wook, a Jinju city council member and former president of the Gyeongsang National University student council, urged, "The government should not ignore the appeals of university student council presidents shouting at the National Assembly and Sejong City despite the heat."
