Wando-gun on High Alert as 10 COVID-19 Cases Confirmed
Epidemiological Investigation Underway, Complete Survey of Soanmyeon Residents
[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Following the occurrence of 3 confirmed cases in Soan-myeon, Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do on the 23rd, 6 more cases were reported on the 24th, along with 1 confirmed case in Wando-eup, prompting emergency measures by the quarantine authorities.
According to Wando-gun on the 25th, a wide-ranging epidemiological investigation is underway targeting Soan-myeon and Wando-eup, where confirmed cases have been reported since the morning of the 24th. The movement paths of the confirmed cases will be disclosed immediately once identified.
In particular, Soan-myeon, which saw a significant number of confirmed cases within two days, is conducting a full survey of all residents. Village halls and senior centers in Soan-myeon have been closed, restaurants and coffee shops have suspended operations, and religious facilities are limited to non-face-to-face worship only.
Passenger ship cabins traveling to and from Soan-myeon have been separated between residents and outsiders to prevent contact.
Residents who have been in close contact with confirmed cases and are under self-quarantine are being doubly managed by designated officials from the Soan-myeon office and the county office.
County Governor Shin Woo-cheol, in an emergency statement, expressed, “We regret to deliver such unfortunate news again while the spread of COVID-19 in our region has not yet been contained.” He repeatedly urged, “Considering the fatigue and many inconveniences felt by the residents, the only way to protect ourselves from the virus is to strictly follow quarantine rules such as wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. Please refrain from visiting other regions, meeting outsiders, and holding private gatherings.”
As of the 24th, the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Wando-gun stands at 47.
