View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 23rd, Lee Dong-jin, Mayor of Dobong-gu, received a plaque of appreciation from the Seoul Metropolitan Council of District Mayors at the 162nd regular meeting, recognizing his efforts over the past year as the chairman of the council during the third year of the 7th local government administration.
Despite unprecedented circumstances such as the vacancy of Mayor Park Won-soon and the COVID-19 pandemic, Lee Dong-jin, Mayor of Dobong-gu, led the council as a partner in city administration by accomplishing tasks including ▲establishing and operating the council secretariat ▲promoting public Wi-Fi ▲supporting admission preparation funds for new students in Seoul middle and high schools ▲urging follow-up legislation on the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and measures to prevent child abuse ▲preparing disaster relief funds as part of city-district cooperative livelihood measures ▲designating a decarbonized ESG treasury.
According to a district official, Mayor Lee Dong-jin plans to focus on pressing issues in Dobong-gu such as the commencement of Seoul Arena construction and the creation of a new economic hub in Chang-dong during the remainder of his term in the 7th local government administration, while also faithfully fulfilling his roles as chairman of the Local Autonomy and Decentralization Government Council and chairman of the Korean Human Rights Cities Council.
Mayor Lee Dong-jin of Dobong-gu said, “The position of council chairman was quite a heavy responsibility, but thanks to many fellow mayors, I was able to complete my term without major issues. The past year was a great honor for me, providing valuable experience beyond the regional limits of Dobong-gu. Together with the newly elected Chairman Lee Seong of the council, I will also work to ensure the successful conclusion of the 7th local government Seoul Metropolitan Council of District Mayors.”
Mapo-gu, Public Sports Facilities Quarantine Inspection
Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) conducted quarantine inspections for seven public sports facilities from July 19 to 23 over five days following the implementation of Level 4 social distancing in the Seoul metropolitan area.
The main inspection items included compliance with occupancy limits based on area, duration of stay within the facilities, operation of shower rooms, and whether the number of players per sport exceeded 1.5 times the allowed number.
Gwangjin-gu Holds Emergency Quarantine Measures Meeting with Konkuk University, Sejong University, and Presbyterian University
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) held an emergency quarantine measures meeting with local universities on the 23rd in the mayor’s office to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The meeting was attended by the mayor and presidents of three universities: Konkuk University, Sejong University, and Presbyterian University, where they shared recent analyses of COVID-19 infection patterns.
They also discussed joint response measures, emphasizing the importance of proactive COVID-19 testing and vaccination.
During the meeting, the universities requested support for quarantine supplies for campus disinfection and manpower support for temperature checks of entrants in preparation for the second semester.
The district government agreed to actively consider these requests and review and discuss them with the relevant departments where possible.
Additionally, the district and the universities agreed to maintain close cooperation continuously to prevent COVID-19 spread and ensure smooth academic operations.
Gwangjin-gu Mayor Kim Seon-gap said, “Since the early stages of the COVID-19 outbreak, Gwangjin-gu and the three local universities have established a cooperative system and have continuously worked hard on local quarantine efforts. We will continue to closely cooperate with the universities to maintain a thorough quarantine system.”
Prior to this, in the early stages of the COVID-19 outbreak last year, the district was the first nationwide to conduct secondary testing and on-site visits for Chinese international students at local universities, forming a dedicated response team for international students and establishing a joint response system with each university.

National Assembly Member Kim Doo-kwan and Mapo-gu Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun visited the Mapo Vaccination Center (Mapo Community Sports Center) on the 23rd.
Member Kim Doo-kwan received an explanation on the vaccination status in Mapo-gu, toured the vaccination center, and took time to listen to residents’ concerns.

Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) announced on the morning of the 23rd that it received 100 sets of ice vests and scarves (worth approximately 2 million KRW) from Geunnamu Korean Medicine Clinic (Director Choi Yoon-yong).
Since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Geunnamu Korean Medicine Clinic has actively engaged in social contribution activities, including providing KF94 masks and other quarantine supplies to the local community and quarantine personnel, as well as monthly sponsorships for low-income youth.
