Lee Young-joo, Director at Ministry of Economy and Finance, Joins UN Senior Position... Expected to Lead Discussions on Digital Tax and More
Lee Young-joo, Director of the International Tax System Division at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, who will serve as a member of the United Nations (UN) Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters (CEICTM) for four years until 2025.

[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Lee Youngju, Director of the International Tax System Division at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, has been appointed to an important position at the United Nations (UN).
The Ministry of Economy and Finance announced that on the 22nd (local time), the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) held a plenary session at the UN Headquarters in New York, USA, and appointed Director Lee as a member of the Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters (CEICTM). He will serve a four-year term until 2025.
The committee is an expert body under ECOSOC composed of 25 tax experts from around the world. It mainly discusses revisions to the UN Model Tax Convention and various international cooperation measures related to taxation. This is the third time a Korean official has been appointed to the committee, following Lee Kyunggeun, former Director of the International Tax Division from 2005 to 2009, and Ahn Sejun, former Director of the International Tax System Division from 2009 to 2015.
Director Lee, who joined the Ministry of Economy and Finance through the 45th Administrative Examination in 2001, has held various positions including head of the International Tax Cooperation Team, head of the Rulings General Team, and roles in the Income Tax Division and Value-Added Tax Division. He is a veteran in international taxation, tax policy, and national tax administration.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance stated, "With Director Lee’s participation in the committee, it is expected that Korea’s influence in the UN’s international tax norm discussions will be strengthened." They added, "Especially during a time when the international tax policy environment is rapidly changing due to discussions on digital taxation, his leadership in international discussions is anticipated to make a significant contribution."
