Suncheon-si Provides Emergency Support Fund of 2 Million Won to Travel Industry
Seed Funding Support for Travel Industry Severely Affected by Prolonged COVID-19 Pandemic
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 22nd that it will provide an emergency support fund of 2 million KRW to travel agencies located in the city that are experiencing business difficulties due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, including a collapse in foreign travel and a decrease in tourists.
With the fourth wave of the pandemic beginning this month, mainly in the metropolitan area, there are concerns that the already struggling travel industry will suffer a severe blow, prompting the city to decide on emergency support measures.
As of the 1st of this month, the city plans to provide 2 million KRW to travel agencies registered in Suncheon under the Tourism Promotion Act, with support limited to one agency per representative within the travel industry.
Applications can be submitted by downloading the application form from the city’s website and visiting the Suncheon City Tourism Division with the required documents, including the business registration certificate, between the 26th and 30th for five days.
A city official stated, “The travel industry has regrettably received less compensation compared to other sectors as it was not designated as a business subject to gathering bans or operational restrictions,” adding, “We hope this emergency support fund will provide some relief to travel agencies facing business difficulties.”
