Gangdong Police Station Awards Letter of Appreciation and Reward to Security Guard Who Prevented Voice Phishing
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] The Gangdong Police Station in Seoul announced on the 22nd that it awarded a letter of appreciation and a reward for reporting to a security guard who prevented a voice phishing scam.
According to the police, Lee Sang-woo, a security guard at Hana Bank Cheonho-dong Branch who received the letter of appreciation, closely observed a customer carrying a paper bag containing bundles of cash on the afternoon of the 13th and informed the bank staff. The staff monitored the situation for potential voice phishing damage through the internal network and reported it to the police via the "112 notification system for large cash withdrawals," preventing the damage. It was found that the customer was deceived by a low-interest refinancing loan call and was attempting to withdraw and deliver 30 million won, which had been borrowed to pay the remaining balance for a house purchase.

He emphasized, "Please remember that any calls or messages demanding deposits or cash delivery under the pretense of low-interest loans or government-supported loans, or requesting repayment of existing loans claiming violations of terms and conditions and threats of legal action, are 100% scams."
