The plan is to dismantle factional colors within the camp centered on An and to absorb a large number of policy experts both inside and outside the National Assembly, thereby gathering support beyond specific factions.
On the 21st, a representative of the open camp said, "The appointment of Special Advisor An itself signifies a non-factional, post-factional orientation and a message of centrist expansion," adding, "The governor himself does not want to be indebted to anyone to win. The message to eliminate factional politics is embedded in appointing Representative An as the head of the special advisory group."
Although An is a five-term veteran lawmaker, he is considered to have weak factional ties. In 2013, during the Democratic United Party era, he advocated for the withdrawal of the pro-Roh faction and formed the 'Group for Democratic Party Reform (Reform Group)'.
Another lawmaker from the open camp said, "The governor himself says things like 'Where is the Lee Jae-myung faction? Am I not from the Jeong Seong-ho faction?' showing his dislike for factionalism," and added, "The focus will be on responsible politics and discovering feasible policy agendas rather than on any specific faction, and we will absorb policy experts within the National Assembly."
On the previous day, the open camp appointed Representative An and Governor Lee’s closest aide, Representative Jeong Seong-ho, as co-heads of the special advisory group through additional personnel appointments. Ha Seung-chang, former Deputy Mayor of Seoul during the late Mayor Park Won-soon’s administration and former Senior Secretary for Social Innovation at the Blue House, was appointed as the head of the campaign planning team. Former Seoul Education Superintendent Kwak No-hyun and former Jeonnam Education Superintendent Jang Man-chae were named as heads of the education advisory group. Representative Seo Young-seok was appointed as the chair of the Health and Welfare Committee.
