Yeosu, 12 Confirmed COVID-19 Cases Originating from Kindergarten
31 Confirmed Cases Since the 16th, Cluster Infections Continue
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] Twelve COVID-19 cases have been confirmed related to the Yeocheon Elementary School affiliated kindergarten in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, putting quarantine authorities on high alert.
According to Yeosu City, on the morning of the 20th, 12 people tested positive for COVID-19, including 10 children from the Yeocheon Elementary School affiliated kindergarten, 1 elementary school student, and 1 after-school teacher.
As of 11 a.m. on the 20th in Yeosu, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has risen to 295, including 26 overseas arrivals.
Since July 16, confirmed cases have been 1 on the 16th, 5 on the 17th, and 7 on the 18th, with 12 related to contact from other regions and 1 symptomatic case of other causes.
On the 19th, 3 cases were confirmed, including 1 related to contact from another region, 1 child from the Yeocheon Elementary School affiliated kindergarten, and 1 family member, totaling 31 confirmed cases since the 16th.
The quarantine authorities are conducting tests on 57 close contacts, including families of the kindergarten children, and are also conducting on-site mass testing of about 650 students and staff at Yeocheon Elementary School.
In particular, there are concerns about transmission within academies attended by kindergarten and elementary school students. As cases are identified, tests will be conducted on academy staff and students who had contact, and public information will be provided through disaster safety text messages.
