[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] Entertainment establishments that violated the gathering ban order and operated illegally from weekend nights until dawn were caught by the police.
According to the police on the 18th, the Songpa Police Station in Seoul responded to a report around 3 a.m. the previous day about a karaoke room in Garak-dong, Songpa-gu, operating illegally. They apprehended 21 people including the owner, employees, and customers. It is known that they locked the doors and hid when the police conducted the crackdown but were eventually caught.
The police applied charges against the owner for operating an unregistered karaoke room and arranging hostesses (violation of the Music Industry Promotion Act).
On the same day around 11:45 p.m., the police responded to a report of illegal operation at a nightlife bar in Garak-dong and apprehended 16 people, including one female hostess and 15 customers, on charges of violating the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act.
In the Seoul metropolitan area, where social distancing level 4 is in effect, entertainment facilities subject to the gathering ban order are not allowed to operate. Karaoke rooms are restricted from operating after 10 p.m.
