First Korean Concept Car in 'Baeg'... Hyundai Pony Coupe Video Released
1974 Torino Auto Show Commemorative Iconic Model... Influence on 45EV and Ioniq 5
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Korea's first concept car, the Pony Coupe, is being recreated through the online game 'PUBG: Battlegrounds (Baeg)'. Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 16th that it will showcase a Pony Coupe video through a partnership with game developer Krafton PUBG Studio.
The Pony Coupe video, to be released on Baeg's social networking service (SNS) on the 17th, perfectly reproduces not only the vehicle's interior and exterior but also the engine sound, depicting the car driving through a small Korean city in the 1980s.
Earlier, Hyundai announced the revival of the Pony Coupe through the new map TAEGO, introduced in Baeg on the 7th. TAEGO is a large map used as a battleground in Baeg, set against the backdrop of Korea in the 1980s and 1990s.
The Pony Coupe is a concept car unveiled by Hyundai at the 1974 Torino Auto Show. Although it never went into mass production, it holds a monumental status as Korea's first concept car. Since then, the Pony Coupe has inspired Hyundai's electric vehicle concept 45EV and the design of the Ioniq 5.
A Hyundai Motor Company official said, "We are pleased that the Pony Coupe, which also inspired the design of the recently released electric vehicle Ioniq 5, can be experienced in a game popular among the MZ generation (those born between the 1980s and 2000s)." He added, "We plan to expand non-face-to-face campaigns that bring small joys and fun to daily life through various digital content and marketing activities."
