Gangjin Nammireuksa Temple Holds Summer Health Food Sharing Volunteer Service
Elders at Senior Centers and 30 Vulnerable Households Provided with Samgyetang and Pork

View original image[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] On the 9th, at Nam Mireuksa Temple in Gangjin, Jeonnam (Chief Monk Beophung), donated Bokdallim food such as samgyetang chicken, pork, and fruit to vulnerable groups and elderly residents at senior centers in Gundoong-myeon and Byeongyeong-myeon.
According to Gangjin County on the 15th, the donated food included 100 servings of samgyetang chicken each for Gundoong-myeon and Byeongyeong-myeon, one pig, kimchi, fruit, and beverages, which were delivered to elderly residents at senior centers and 30 vulnerable households.
Chief Monk Beophung said, “We prepared the food with sincerity so that the elderly and vulnerable households exhausted from COVID-19 and the rainy season could spend the hottest days of summer comfortably,” adding, “We will continue to strive to provide more help to local elders and neighbors in need.”
County Governor Lee Seung-ok said, “Nam Mireuksa Temple plays a very significant role and contribution in improving the welfare of local residents and revitalizing tourism,” and added, “It will be a great support to the elderly and neighbors in difficulty during the challenging times of the rainy season and scorching heat.”
Meanwhile, Chief Monk Beophung has practiced the spirit of sharing and volunteering by donating over 3 billion won over the past 35 years to scholarship foundations, children-headed households, and welfare facilities. In recognition of these contributions, he received the Prime Minister’s Commendation at the 2020 Korea Volunteer Awards held by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety last year.
