Vaccination Reservations Resume for Ages 55-59... System Instability Causes 'Waiting to Connect' Issue Again
About 1.674 Million People Aged 55-59 Who Could Not Book Vaccinations Attempted to Reserve Simultaneously
KCDC States "Network Issues More Likely Than Server Problems"
[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] The COVID-19 vaccine pre-registration for those aged 55 to 59 resumed at 8 p.m. on the 14th, but users are experiencing inconvenience due to unstable access.
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA), among approximately 3,524,000 eligible individuals aged 55 to 59, a significant number of the 1,674,000 who have not yet made reservations appear to have caused system instability by attempting to book simultaneously. Since they must hurry to select their preferred vaccination date and medical institution by the 24th, a surge in users is inevitable.
In response to repeated inquiries about access failures, the KDCA explained in a press release around 9 p.m. that “there have been cases of unstable server connection immediately after the pre-registration opened,” and “the server has now been restarted and the network is being stabilized.”
Each time a new target group makes vaccine reservations, system paralysis occurs due to a surge in simultaneous access. Previously, when reservations were conducted for kindergarten, daycare, and elementary school grades 1-2 teachers and care workers, some access errors occurred for about two hours starting at midnight on the 8th.
In the National Assembly, frequent system errors led to suggestions to change the reservation start time to improve convenience. Accordingly, the KDCA adjusted the reservation start time from midnight to 8 p.m.

Jung Woo-jin, head of the KDCA system management team, stated at a back briefing that “the recent types of failures occurring through the pre-registration system are more likely network issues rather than server problems,” and “strictly speaking, there have been no server failures, and the server is operated with the highest performance equipment available.”
