Kim Jaewon: "Lee Junseok's Call to Abolish Ministry of Unification and Ministry of Gender Equality is Admirable, but Let's Discuss After Taking Power"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Kim Jae-won, Supreme Council Member of the People Power Party, said that while the calls to abolish the Ministry of Unification and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family are ‘excellent ideas,’ they should be discussed after coming to power. He emphasized that there is no need to provoke opposing public opinion ahead of the election.
On the 13th, Kim appeared on MBC Radio’s ‘Kim Jong-bae’s Focus’ and spoke about the abolition proposals for the Ministry of Unification and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family advocated by Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party. He said, "All the points that Leader Lee talks about are excellent, but I think it would be better to discuss them again after we come to power."
Kim added, "In fact, when the Lee Myung-bak administration took office in 2008, they went through government reorganization and proposed abolishing the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and the Ministry of Unification, but they couldn’t carry it out," and continued, "Ahead of elections, when opposing public opinion can become intense, especially when people who are not directly involved suddenly face new changes, they may form a negative impression and judge unfavorably. In such cases, whether it is truly desirable now can be viewed differently."

Regarding the abolition of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, he said, "If you look at what it actually does, it’s criticized for operating more like a playground for women’s organizations rather than working for women," but added, "If the ministry is abolished, there is also a possibility that women who have no relation to it might suddenly oppose it, so I think it would be better to approach this matter cautiously."
