New COVID-19 Cases Double in a Week in LA... Spread of Delta Variant
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] In Los Angeles (LA) County, the most populous county in the United States, new COVID-19 cases are rapidly increasing as the Delta variant spreads.
According to CNN and others on the 9th (local time), the number of new confirmed cases in LA County this week reached 3.47 per 100,000 residents, doubling from 1.74 per 100,000 last week.
According to the LA County Department of Public Health, as of the 8th, new confirmed cases numbered 839, a 165% increase compared to last week, and the positivity rate among those tested rose from 1.2% to 2.5%.
With a population of over 10 million, LA County is the largest metropolitan area in the United States and was one of the regions with the highest COVID-19 incidence rates before vaccinations.

Currently, 60% of residents aged 16 and older in LA County have been vaccinated, but health authorities report that the Delta variant is spreading mainly among the unvaccinated. It was confirmed that 99.96% of new cases are among unvaccinated residents.
