According to Wando-gun on the 8th, since 2014, around the Sambok period, they have been encouraging consumers to eat abalone every year by holding the event "Abalone on Boknal, Abalone Day."
This year, together with Wando Abalone Co., Ltd., they plan to sell about 60 tons of abalone at 113 Lotte Mart stores nationwide from the 8th to Jungbok (the middle of the three hottest days), which falls on the 21st.
At the opening ceremony of the abalone promotion event held on the 7th at Lotte Mart Seoul Station branch, about 10 people attended, including Shin Woo-cheol, Wando County Governor, Heo Gung-hee, Chairman of Wando County Council, Park Jae-seon, Vice Chairman, Lee Yoo-seong, CEO of Wando Abalone Co., Ltd., and Jung Jae-woo, Head of Lotte Mart Product Headquarters.
Due to COVID-19, the opening ceremony minimized the number of participants and omitted free tasting events, instead conducting a campaign promoting abalone, which is good for immunity, to customers visiting the store with the message "Overcome the Sambok heatwave with Wando abalone."
Also, from the 7th until Malbok (the last of the three hottest days) on the 10th of next month, abalone producers' groups will sell abalone through the Naver shopping mall.
In particular, during the online sales period, surprise live discount events will be held in connection with K Shopping during Chobok (the first of the three hottest days), Naver Shopping during Jungbok, and Lotte Shopping during Malbok.
A place to directly check and purchase fresh Wando abalone has also been prepared. Targeting Jungbok, a direct transaction market operated by the Korea Abalone Distribution Association will be held for two days from the 16th at the Sejong City Local Food Direct Store, and for three days from the 6th of next month around Malbok in Tongyeong City.
Wando abalone, which grows eating kelp and seaweed from the clean sea, contains abundant vitamins, iron, calcium, potassium, and protein, and is called the "Ginseng of the Sea," regarded as the best health food in summer.
In particular, research results showing that extracts from abalone viscera and seaweeds such as seaweed, sea mustard, kelp, and seaweed stems are effective in inhibiting the penetration of the COVID-19 virus were published in "Marine Drugs," a globally authoritative marine pharmaceutical journal.
Governor Shin Woo-cheol said, "There is a saying that if you eat one abalone a day, your body will transform in a month. This story succinctly explains the efficacy of abalone," adding, "I hope people overcome the exhaustion from COVID-19 and the onset of the heatwave with Wando abalone."
