President Moon exchanges summit letters with Fiji President on 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations
Basic Agreement on Fiji Grant Aid Scheduled for the 9th, Establishing a Foundation for Economic Development Aid Projects
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] President Moon Jae-in exchanged letters with President Jioji Konusi Konrote of Fiji to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Fiji.
Park Kyung-mi, spokesperson for the Blue House, stated in a written briefing on the 6th, "In the letter, President Moon evaluated that the bilateral relationship has steadily developed since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1971, and expressed hope that both countries will wisely overcome the difficulties caused by COVID-19 and expand cooperation in various fields such as politics, economy, and culture."
In particular, President Moon emphasized that he considers it meaningful that the two countries were able to establish a stable foundation for development cooperation through the 'Korea-Fiji Basic Agreement on Grant Aid.' On the 9th, the Ambassador to Fiji and the Deputy Foreign Minister of Fiji are scheduled to sign the 'Basic Agreement on Grant Aid between the Government of the Republic of Korea and the Government of the Republic of Fiji.'
Spokesperson Park explained, "The basic agreement was promoted to strengthen development cooperation between the two countries by establishing an institutional foundation for supporting Fiji's economic and social development and carrying out grant aid projects," adding, "The main contents of the agreement include general provisions for development cooperation between the two countries, tax exemptions for KOICA staff and offices, among others."
Meanwhile, the President of Fiji expressed gratitude in the letter for the sustained friendly and cooperative relationship between the two countries over the past 50 years.
