[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] Former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun expressed his surprise at Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung's response during the preliminary TV debate for the Democratic Party presidential candidate, when Lee replied to a question about the 'Kim Bu-seon scandal' by saying, "Shall I pull my pants down one more time?" Chung said, "He could have answered sincerely. I was surprised by his attitude to the point of being embarrassed."
In an interview with MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' on the morning of the 6th, former Prime Minister Chung said, "The primary election has the responsibility to verify ability and morality. As part of that, I asked on behalf of the people," explaining his stance.
Earlier, when former Prime Minister Chung demanded an explanation about the scandal involving actress Kim Bu-seon at the JTBC·MBN joint-hosted Democratic Party presidential preliminary candidate TV debate the previous day, Governor Lee retorted, "What do you want me to do? Shall I pull my pants down one more time?"
On the 4th, during the Democratic Party's second national interview, when former Supreme Council member Kim Hae-young asked about the scandal with Kim Bu-seon, Governor Lee said, "I don't know how much more I have to prove," and added, "I hope this is enough."
Former Prime Minister Chung emphasized the importance of candidate verification, saying, "Candidate Lee Jae-myung is the leading candidate in our party's opinion polls. Then, as a competitor and an asset of our party, he is highly likely to become the candidate. If we send him to the general election without verification and such issues surface, causing problems in winning the general election, wouldn't that mean the party is defeated?"
When the host asked, "Hasn't the hospital examination resolved the allegations?" Chung replied, "I don't know the details. If that's the case, they should inform the public. I don't know the details, and neither do the people."
Former Prime Minister Chung predicted that the current primary race, where Governor Lee is leading, would change. He said, "I think it will go to a runoff. I don't think it will proceed without any changes," emphasizing, "A representative example is President Roh Moo-hyun's case. Candidates do their best to create a drama."

Meanwhile, actress Kim Bu-seon claimed that Governor Lee had an affair with her for 15 months while hiding the fact that he was married, and as evidence, she said she knew the location of a mole, a physical characteristic of Lee. However, in October 2018, after Lee underwent a physical examination at Ajou University Hospital, the hospital announced that there was no mole on the body part Kim Bu-seon claimed. Subsequently, the scandal was closed with a decision not to prosecute.
