[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] The discovery of the body of an Asian woman who went missing in London, UK, has shocked the public.
According to the BBC and others on the 1st (local time), Mi Kwen Chong (67), originally from Malaysia, went missing after leaving her home in Wembley, London, UK, on the 10th of last month. Her body was found on the 27th of the same month in a forested area in Salcombe, Devon. Salcombe is about 350 km away from Wembley, where Chong went missing, which is roughly a four-hour drive.
A local citizen who was out walking at the time discovered Chong’s mutilated body and reported it to the police. A local resident said, "The place where the body was found is a walking trail where residents take their dogs daily," adding, "It is shocking that such an incident occurred in a place considered safe."
The local police estimate that the body had been left in the forest for several days. However, no clues related to the case have been found so far. The police are conducting additional searches in the forest where the body was discovered and are looking for witnesses.
Neighbors were also shocked by Chong’s death. One neighbor said, "Chong was a devout church member," and added, "She often had tea and many conversations with my family. It is shocking that she has passed away."
He mentioned that Chong usually had difficulty walking. He said, "I don’t know how someone who couldn’t walk properly could have made it all the way to Salcombe."
Some speculate that Chong’s sudden death might be a hate crime targeting Asians.
