Fully Vaccinated Individuals Increase by 16,659 to a Total of 5,319,954... Vaccination Rate at 10.4%
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The number of people in South Korea who have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine has increased to about 30% of the total population. On the 3rd alone, the number of new vaccine recipients increased by approximately 1,100.
According to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team (Promotion Team) as of midnight on the 4th, the cumulative number of first-dose recipients in South Korea reached 15,347,197, which corresponds to about 29.9% of the total population (51,349,116 as of December last year).
By vaccine type, among the cumulative first-dose recipients, 10,396,325 received the AstraZeneca vaccine, and 3,782,315 received the Pfizer vaccine.
The Moderna vaccine, which began administration at hospital-level medical institutions from last month, has been given to 39,118 people so far. The cumulative number of Janssen vaccine recipients is 1,129,439. Since the Janssen vaccine requires only one dose, its recipients are included in both first and second dose statistics.
The number of new first-dose recipients the previous day was 1,150. By vaccine type, 763 received Moderna, 386 received Pfizer, and 1 received AstraZeneca (AZ).
The number of people who have completed both doses increased by 16,659, bringing the cumulative total to 5,319,954. This accounts for 10.4% of the population.
By vaccine, the number of people who completed vaccination is 3,220,640 for Pfizer, 969,875 for AstraZeneca, and the remainder are Janssen recipients.
Among AstraZeneca's target population (12,517,553), 83.1% have received the first dose, and 7.7% have completed the second dose. For the Pfizer vaccine, among the total target population (4,338,804), 87.2% have received the first dose, and 74.2% have completed the second dose.
For the Moderna vaccine, just over half (51.1%) of the target population (76,536) have received the first dose. Among the priority recipients of the Janssen vaccine (1,170,667), 96.5% have been vaccinated.
Currently, four types of vaccines?AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Janssen, and Moderna?are being administered in South Korea. AstraZeneca, Pfizer, and Moderna vaccines require two doses, while the Janssen vaccine requires only one dose.
The interval between doses varies slightly by vaccine type. The AstraZeneca vaccine recommends a 11 to 12-week interval, Pfizer a 3-week interval, and Moderna a 4-week interval between the first and second doses.
The government plans to focus on second-dose vaccinations until mid-month while preparing for a large-scale first-dose vaccination campaign in the second half of the year.
