UK Considers Exempting Vaccinated Individuals from Self-Quarantine After Contact with Confirmed Cases
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] The UK government is considering exempting individuals who have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from self-isolation even if they come into contact with confirmed cases.
On the 3rd (local time), major foreign media including The Guardian reported this, citing an announcement from the UK Prime Minister's Office.
Despite the spread of the Delta variant, the UK government is shifting its COVID-19 prevention strategy to emphasize personal responsibility rather than legal regulations.
The Times reported that senior government officials plan to introduce new COVID-19 prevention policies next month.
The Times stated that the official estimate is that exempting fully vaccinated individuals from self-isolation would increase confirmed cases by 26%.
There is also consideration of exempting fully vaccinated individuals from self-isolation even when arriving from 'yellow' countries that currently require a 10-day quarantine.
Regarding such easing of prevention regulations, the British Medical Association (BMA) holds the view that some protective measures are still necessary even after the planned lifting of restrictions on July 19.
