Outgoing Commander Abrams Receives Hosin Medal... Honors for ROK-US Combined Forces Commander Contributing to ROK-US Alliance
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] President Moon Jae-in (face) awarded the Order of National Security Merit, Tongil Medal, to Robert Abrams, Commander of the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command and Commander of United States Forces Korea, at the Chungmugil Room of the Blue House on the 1st.
Commander Abrams, who took office in November 2018, is scheduled to hand over command to the new ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Commander Paul LaCamera at the change of command ceremony on the 2nd after completing his 2 years and 8 months term. President Moon honored Commander Abrams with the medal in recognition of his contributions to establishing a solid security posture and strengthening the ROK-U.S. alliance during his tenure.
As a farewell gift, President Moon presented a "Hosun Medal (tiger-decorated) Hwandodo" sword. The Hwandodo, crafted by a Gyeonggi-do intangible cultural asset artisan, was engraved with Abrams' Korean name, Woo Kyung-su. Additionally, a bouquet symbolizing the hope for peace on the Korean Peninsula based on the friendship between the two countries was presented to Commander Abrams and his spouse.

The event was attended by Robert Rapson, Acting U.S. Ambassador to Korea, John Aquilino, Commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, and LaCamera, the successor ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Commander, who joined in the congratulations. From the Blue House, Chief Secretary Yoo Young-min and National Security Office Director Suh Hoon were also present.
