New Character Songsong Papa Gains Popularity Loved by Residents... Also Plays a Role as a Communication Channel Bringing the District Office Closer to Residents
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) will hold a commemorative event on July 1st to mark the first anniversary of the proclamation of its new city brand.
Last year, the district developed a new city brand, a visual symbol representing the local community, through cooperation and communication with residents and design experts. The proclamation ceremony was held in July 2020 to widely announce Songpa-gu's new beginning.
Over the past year, Songpa's city brand has been used throughout the district to enhance its image by embodying the region's vision and values. Currently, the symbol mark, which succinctly expresses Songpa as a "people-centered leading city guiding Seoul," is installed at representative facilities such as the district office and community service centers.
Additionally, the SongSong and Papa characters, symbolizing "the happy life of residents and the connection of diverse values," are installed as sculptures at tourist attractions like Seokchon Lake and Songpa Dullegil, and appear on signboards at facilities such as the Songpa Kiwoom Center and the cultural experimental space ‘Hosoo’.
In particular, the cute and friendly SongSong and Papa characters have become highly popular and widely used, appearing regularly on informational notices providing residents with necessary information such as COVID-19 vaccination guidance.
This city brand commemorative event will be held as a non-face-to-face online event in accordance with the COVID-19 situation. To celebrate the first anniversary of the new city brand with residents, a photo zone will be set up and a promotional booth operated in the garden in front of Songpa-gu Office on July 1st. The ‘SongSongPapa Youth Supporters,’ selected in April to promote the city brand, will run the booth, where anyone can visit and participate in the SongSongPapa coloring event.
Also, an online event has been ongoing since June 25th. Any resident who uploads a congratulatory message with a certification photo of the SongSongPapa characters scattered throughout Songpa-gu on the district office blog will be entered into a draw to receive a coffee gifticon.

Mayor Park Seong-su stated, “To commemorate the first anniversary of the launch of the Songpa-gu city brand created together with residents, we will widely promote Songpa as the youngest and most vibrant model of local government, and lead district administration by communicating more closely with residents.”
