Seongdong-gu Mayor Jeong Won-o Starts Day 3 of 7th Term as 'Danggeun Market Troubleshooter'...
On the 1st, Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, began the 3rd anniversary of the 7th local government term 'Like the First Time' with a day spent wholeheartedly with residents... Acting as a problem solver for stories posted on Danggeun Market, he talked and shared concerns with each story's protagonists
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, starts his day on July 1 with a busy schedule.
Mayor Jung is in his third year of office, steadily promoting 163 pledge projects across seven major sectors under the vision of the 7th local government term, "A Happier Smart Inclusive City Seongdong Together." Even amid the COVID-19 crisis, he has demonstrated pioneering administration differentiated from other local governments.
Mayor Jung is determined to start the 3rd anniversary of the 7th local government term "like the first time," spending the day wholeheartedly with the residents.
On the day, the Seongdong-gu National and Public Daycare Center Association began the day by encouraging and supporting staff with a free coffee "Thank You Event." Mayor Jung, who has devoted himself to overcoming COVID-19 and supporting essential workers such as childcare staff through various policies, received a plaque of appreciation and shared a moment of gratitude with those who endured together and acknowledged their hard work.
He then volunteered as a problem solver for stories posted by residents on Danggeun Market, guiding traffic on the way to Dongmyeong Elementary School, escorting children to Wangsimni Daycare Center, consulting with young workers in Seongsu-dong about their careers, and experiencing drones with teenagers.
To help residents who found it difficult to keep up with local government news, Mayor Jung had already created an official account on Danggeun Market last year to promote community-oriented local government information.
In March, famous broadcast MC Yoo Jae-suk also touched the hearts of story protagonists by asking, "Are you... Danggeun?" on a TV program, sharing his time and talents for free. Mayor Jung also tried to get closer to residents by meeting them, listening to many stories, and sharing concerns while saying, "Danggeun?"
Accordingly, he visited Dongmyeong Elementary School, which secured a safe school route by relocating nine utility poles last year, guided children to school, acted as a daily daycare helper for children from dual-income families in Eungbong-dong, and shared the hardships of working moms. He also consulted a 30-something office worker from Seongsu-dong, who is from the same hometown, about future dreams and career paths, candidly sharing his experiences as a senior in life.
Despite the packed schedule, official events continue.
At 5 p.m., he attends the opening ceremony of Seongdong Ai Sarang Complex Cultural Center, a new landmark in Seongdong where families can enjoy, learn, and experience together.
From a kids caf? where children can freely play to art and science experience rooms, the Seongdong Ai Sarang Complex Cultural Center offers creative play experiences for children. Mayor Jung shares the process of discussing and exchanging opinions with residents until the center was built in the Geumho and Oksu areas, signaling the beginning of a Seongdong where all families raising children can communicate and enjoy together.
After 6 p.m., he visits the adult women's Taekwondo gym in Geumho 4-ga-dong to practice Taekwondo together, filling the day to the very end with stories from various residents he meets in daily life.
Mayor Jung earned the highest grade "SA" in the "2021 National Basic Local Government Heads Pledge Fulfillment and Information Disclosure Evaluation" earlier this month, earning the honor of being a "trustworthy mayor who keeps promises well" for the fourth consecutive year by faithfully fulfilling election pledges made to residents.
He has promoted major policies such as fostering social ventures, operating a future job corporation, the "Hyo Sarang Primary Care Physician" program, and expanding public daycare centers. Especially, even amid the COVID-19 crisis, the district demonstrated pioneering administration differentiated from other local governments with a mindset of change and innovation, setting a role model for the government and local governments nationwide.
Seongdong-gu was the first in the nation to introduce a "mobile electronic log system," leading the government's mandatory adoption. It also promoted support policies for essential workers who silently maintain our daily lives, driving government legislation.
Seongdong-gu ranked first in resident trust among Seoul's 25 autonomous districts because it faithfully fulfilled promises to residents across the board and genuinely communicated closely with residents, listening attentively to their stories, which formed the foundation of true "kindness."
