Police Promotion to Superintendent General... Choi Gwan-ho, Lee Gyu-moon, Lee Cheol-gu, Jin Gyo-hoon (Update)
Kim Kwang-ho, Chief Spokesperson at Headquarters, and 5 Others Promoted to Police Commissioner
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] On the 28th, the government carried out promotions of senior police officials, including promoting Choi Gwan-ho, Planning and Coordination Officer of the National Police Agency, to the rank of Commissioner General.
Those promoted to Commissioner General include Planning and Coordination Officer Choi, Lee Gyu-moon, Deputy Commissioner of Investigation at Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, Lee Cheol-gu, Chief of Chungnam Police Agency, and Jin Gyo-hoon, Chief of Jeonbuk Police Agency.
In previous years, appointments to positions were made along with promotions to Commissioner General, but due to the autonomous police system to be implemented from July this year, appointments of metropolitan and provincial police chiefs must be consulted with each metropolitan and provincial autonomous police committee, so only promotion announcements have been made for now.
The Commissioner General is the rank directly below the Commissioner of the National Police Agency (Chief Commissioner) and is classified as a potential candidate for the next Commissioner of the National Police Agency. Among the 130,000 police officers nationwide, there are only seven at this level, including the Deputy Commissioner of the National Police Agency, Chiefs of Seoul, Gyeonggi Nambu, Busan, Incheon Police Agencies, the President of the Korean National Police University, and the Director of the National Investigation Headquarters.
