Fire Insurance Association Awards Fire Safety Volunteer Award Grand Prize to Firefighter Kim Jin-wook of Dalseo Fire Station
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] This year, the Grand Prize for the Fire Safety Volunteer Award was given to Fire Lieutenant Kim Jin-wook of Daegu Dalseo Fire Station.
The Korea Fire Insurance Association announced on the 25th that it held the 48th Fire Safety Volunteer Award ceremony. The ceremony was conducted by having the heads of regional fire departments or fire stations present plaques and prize money to the awardees, reflecting the extended social distancing measures due to COVID-19 and other quarantine conditions.
Fire Lieutenant Kim Jin-wook, who won the grand prize, joined the fire service in 2003 and has participated in approximately 630 fire suppression and rescue operations over about 18 years. On May 16 last year, he extinguished a cargo truck fire even outside of working hours, and in 2019, he saved the life of a cardiac arrest patient through cardiopulmonary resuscitation, actively responding to various disaster scenes.
Eighteen people, including Fire Lieutenant Choi Sang-beom (38) of Seoul Guro Fire Station and Fire Captain Kim Do-heung (48) of Busan General Situation Room, received the main award. Two people, including Fire Lieutenant Kim Sung-moon (43) of Daejeon Dongbu Fire Station, received the Merit Award for comforting firefighters injured during fire suppression.
